The first-date safety checklist we wish every app shipped

Published July 11, 2026 ยท Milaps team

Most first dates are lovely and uneventful. A safety routine isn't about fear โ€” it's about making the good dates effortless and the rare bad situation recoverable. Here's the checklist we recommend to every member.

Before the date

  • Video chat first, even five minutes โ€” it confirms the person matches their photos and filters out most bad actors.
  • Tell one friend the who/where/when, and set a check-in time.
  • Keep the conversation on-platform until you've met. Pressure to move to WhatsApp or Telegram quickly is the single most common scam signal.

During

  • Meet in a public place you chose, not a location they insisted on.
  • Arrange your own transport both ways.
  • Keep your drink in sight; it's fine to order for yourself.
  • If something feels off, leave. You owe a stranger nothing โ€” not even an explanation.

After

  • Check in with your friend.
  • If someone behaved badly, report them in-app โ€” reports are reviewed by humans and protect the next person.

What Milaps does on its side

Photo verification with an AI-generation screen, scam-pattern detection on messages, human-reviewed reports with published response targets, and a caste-filter-free, verification-forward community. No system catches everything โ€” which is exactly why the checklist above matters โ€” but the floor should be high.
